The Venue

The Angel Hotel plays homage to the iconic ‘House of Merivale’, a pivotal spot in the sixties and seventies where Mr John and Merivale Hemmes opened their first fashion retail space. 

J&M is our beautiful, premium whiskey and cocktail bar, situated on level 2 of this historic venue. Discreetly tucked away, this dimly lit whisky den harks back to its fashionable past with rich velvet and haberdashery cabinets.

The Role

Our Bar teams are all about creating unforgettable guest experiences and always striving to be the best at what we do. We are looking for creative, innovative, and engaging Bar Manager and to add and lead to our already established legendary team in J&M.

This role will suit a passionate and experienced beverage-driven professional, who truly understands what being hands-on means!

At Merivale, our people are at the forefront of everything we do and the key to our success. Coming into the business as a Bar Manager, you will have the opportunity to express both your creativity as well as your organisational, communication, and people skills.

Along with delivering great cocktails with speed, style, and charisma, you will also be responsible for managing the bar end to end. Your focus will be on developing your people and building an incredible team with a strong culture, as well as taking them on the journey of training and development to upskill them around product knowledge, service standards, and how to create a magical guest experience.

We are looking an experienced Manager who has:

• Creativity and flair
• Experience managing large teams of bartenders and bar team leaders.
• Experience working in a high-volume environment, overseeing multiple bar operations.
• Exceptional product knowledge and ability to drive consistency and excellence.
• Influencing, coaching, and presentation skills.
• Business and operational acumen.
• Knowledge and skills to develop staff around product knowledge, service skills, team culture, and guest relationships.
