General Manager | Wynyard Hotel

Merivale, owned by the Hemmes family, has been established in Australia for over 60 years.  Owning a growing portfolio of more than 80+ restaurants, bars, pubs, hotels, and function spaces in Sydney, including one of our oldes venues, the Wynyard Hotel which was founded in 1873, and where we are in search of our next up and coming General Manager to join us. 

 

The Venue:

A true locals bar, Wynyard Hotel is full of old-world character. Located on the corner of Clarence and Erskine streets, it’s location lends itself to the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Offering classic pub food, a vast selection of beers and comfortable pub-style accommodation – the Wynyard Hotel is a comfortable home away from home. 

 

We are on the lookout for our next up and coming GM to join the Wynyard Hotel team within our Merivale Family.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Group Operations Manager, in this role you’ll be:

  • Working in a small multi-faceted venue (food, beverage and gaming) with a strong focus on delivering a good meal with a great beer. 
  • Responsible for leading and developing a young and keen team of budding hospitality professionals and training them around product knowledge, service skills, team culture and guest relationships;
  • Manage the business like it's your own including being accountable for all aspects of your venue’s P&L
  • Hands-on and operational, not afraid to get your hands dirty;
  • Accountable for compliance reporting, regulatory application and adherence, and assessing and meeting the license obligations;
  • Maintaining a strong community focus, ensuring partnerships are strong and maintained.

 

Who are you

  • 1+ years working as a GM or 3+ years as and Operations Manager and ready for your first GM role.
  • You’ll be a commercially astute people manager, with demonstrated experience in your field;
  • You’ll have exceptional financial acumen;
  • You’ll bring ideas and initiative to the table and drive growth in your venue;
  • You’ll be truly passionate about leading and developing a team, and well connected to your industry to attract the best talent.
  • You'll love the pub culture, and truly enjoy making the regulars feel like extended family.
