Florist | Venue Services

Merivale is back and we want YOU to join us, for an exciting summer like no other. We are growing, with new venues and fresh opportunities - and this is YOUR chance to be a part of it. Come join the fun, further your career, work with the best. It’s time to celebrate Sydney!

The Company

At Merivale, we aim to bring a little magic into the everyday. We are driven to deliver unique and memorable experiences to every person who steps into one of our venues. Guest experience is at the core of what we do and with a growing portfolio of 80+ venues across Sydney & surrounds we have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional and organised individual to work across our high-end venues creating world class guest experiences!

The Role

We are seeking two talented Florists to join the venue services team at Palings Flowers. This role is not your traditional florist position. As an in-house florist for Merivale, your primary focus will be on the floral styling for a number of Sydney’s most iconic restaurants, bars, concepts and event spaces. This role is the backbone to the Palings Flowers business and will require you to maintain the highest level of service and detail when it comes to venue presentation, ensuring each space is carefully executed to make a memorable impact and leave Merivale guests in awe.

We are looking for someone who has the drive to be completely hands on. Under the guidance of the Florist Manager, you will work in a small team that is responsible for interpreting the floral brief for each venue and curating the freshest of product to meet the style and physical requirements of each environment. You will need to consider ongoing maintenance and practicality as well as visual impact. From selection of product, to installation, to removal and disposal, you will be hands on with the entire process from start to finish.

The role is physical in nature, requiring strength and stamina. You will be required to handle and carry large quantities of fresh flowers and foliage-including branches-and lift vessels and buckets filled with water. Your daily routine will be determined by the trading hours of each venue so it’s important that you feel confident working under pressure and stay focused when up against tight deadlines. Our venues are spread across Sydney CBD, Paddington, Woollahra and Coogee so a full drivers licence and confidence driving a van is considered essential.

Other duties include:

  • Sorting, organising and cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Loading and unloading of flowers and foliage from vehicles
  • Ordering flowers directly from the growers
  • Regular trips to the Sydney Flower Market
  • Trimming and storing flowers and foliage
  • Coding supplier invoices and allocating product used in venues
  • Communicating with venue staff and internal Merivale departments

Hours are Monday to Friday, with a once weekly market shift that starts at 5am. Flexibility to occassionally start early or work evenings or weekends to assist with events is helpful.

This role is based on the execution of excellence so whilst floristry experience is preferred, it is not essential. If you are organised, adaptable, have an understanding of shape and balance, and a keen eye for design/visual styling, we welcome your application. The role would otherwise suit floristry beginners or an experienced florist wanting to explore a unique facet of the industry. This truly is a unique position, utilising your passion and skills with en masse arrangements within a fun, energetic working environment.

The Reward

As part of our Merivale Family you’ll be joining a team where individuality means everything – we want you to bring your authentic self to work. In return, you will be provided with fantastic personal development opportunities, a strong and supportive team environment and incredibly generous discounts and benefits.

If this sounds like the perfect role for you, please apply today by submitting your CV for review and we will be in touch.

Merivale is looking forward to a strong and bright future, this includes being a registered ‘COVIDsafe’ organisation. Keeping the health & safety of our guests and employees is at the forefront of how we operate, and under the directive of the Government, we will continue to maintain a ‘COVIDSAFE’ environment for all.
