The Role

We are seeking a talented Florist to craft special moments for our Palings Flowers events team.


If there’s one thing we know at Merivale, it is how to throw a good party. This role is all about bringing the wow factor. You will have the passion and skill to bring events and ideas to life. From a small cocktail party, birthday celebration, or engagement, to all-out functions, this role will have you doing it all!


When a client teams up with Palings Flowers, their special occasion is not just an event, it’s an experience. From start to finish we work hard to make every celebration extraordinary. We have a huge array of event spaces and iconic venues, each with a distinct personality, primed to create an occasion exactly as our clients envisage it. Your job will be to help those ideas shine in the right place, at the right time.


In this role you will work as part of a small team dedicated to events, seeing each one through from concept to completion, seamlessly. From site visits with clients, preparing quotations and design proposals, speaking with event managers and venue staff, right through to seamless bump in onsite, you will be an event florist extraordinaire.


You will have technical skills, valuable knowledge in seasonal varieties, and the creative flair to make stunning arrangements quickly and with confidence. Experience and passion is essential.


In this role your focus will be around:

  • Preparing quotations and floral design proposals
  • Constructing and delivering flowers to venues across Sydney
  • Onsite floral installations at small and medium scale
  • Understanding the Palings Flowers style and conveying this to clients
  • Scheduling events and keeping track of payments and costs
  • Communicating with wholesalers to order flowers and floral products
  • Going to the Sydney Flower Market to choose and buy flowers
  • Working with internal Merivale event managers, stylists and venue staff to ensure seamless collaboration between teams


In this role you will be hands on with the selection of flowers, foliage, vases and sundry supplies. At Palings Flowers we work with the best and go out of our way to source quality products. Be prepared to think outside the box in fun and exciting ways when the opportunity presents itself! Events include those produced by Merivale and those hosted by Merivale guests. We also service external events on a case by case basis.


About you:

  • 3+ years’ floristry experience, focused on an array of events and installations
  • Advanced knowledge of cut flower varieties, pricing, life spans and handling techniques
  • A keen eye for design, detail and colour
  • Good understanding of the economics and logistical planning of events
  • Great time management skills; event deadlines are not flexible and can be tight
  • Design techniques suited to a variety of arrangements and onsite installations
  • Full drivers licence & confidence driving a florist van to locations across Sydney
  • Prepared for heavy lifting, cleaning, manual labour and long days on the go
  • Flower market and pre-ordering experience favourable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Routine hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a regular market shift that starts at 5am. Flexibility to work Sundays, early mornings, late evenings and additional days is helpful.
